Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Wicomico County and Surrounding Areas Through June 25

SALISBURY, MD---The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wicomico County and surrounding areas through 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25.

Heat indices may exceed 110 degrees each day.

Please take precautions by limiting strenuous outdoor activities, as heat exhaustion or heat stroke are possible if you spend a significant time outdoors. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Drink plenty of water, as dehydration will occur quickly, especially if drinking caffeinated beverages. Do not leave children or pets in unattended vehicles as car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions if you work outside:

  • Limit strenuous activities to the early morning
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Know the signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke
  • OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks and moving to an air-conditioned location if you are overcome by heat
