SALISBURY, MD---From the vibraphone to the marimba, percussion is more than just drums, and music is about more than just the beat. That’s the message Two Percussion Duo members Chris Leonard and Dale Speicher hope to share during their performance 7 p.m. Monday, February 21, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ University. The event is part of SU’s Spring Music Series. Leonard and Speicher, founding members of the seminal percussion group Trio Algetic, explore the world of polyphonic percussion sound with six pieces: “All that is Left” by Stuart Saunders Smith, “Duo for Vibraphone and Marimba” by Gitta Steiner, “Bicoastal” by Roger Zahab, “Verhaltnis” by Frank Cox, “Pairs” by Christian Wolff and “Polka in Treblinka” by Smith. The pair studied at the University of Akron, renowned for its percussion program. Since forming Two Percussion Duo, they have commissioned new percussion works from contemporary composers throughout the world. Co-sponsored by the Department of Music and Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs, their performance is free and the public is invited.
