Bio

Bonjour! My students call me Dr. V. I am from the northern banlieue of Paris and have been in the U.S. for about 25 years. I hold a Ph.D. in French Studies from Rice University. My current teaching focus is on career readiness (I just developed a course and minor in Intercultural Skills for the Workplace) and on civic engagement. I myself participate in community outreach by serving as the supervisor of and volunteer for the SU Prison Book Discussion at the Eastern Correctional Institution (Westover, MD). My interest in marginalized populations extends to my research, in which I explore representations of and reactions to socioeconomic inequalities in 19th- and 20th-century French literature. Check out my latest book, a co-edited volume titled Marginal Paris: Representing the Shadows of the City of Light (2024).
